A report announced recently by the UFO watchers society has reported a growing trend in sightings that turn out to be little more than Chinese sky lanterns released into the air by festival and party goers.
The sky lanterns which are anywhere up to 103cm in size are becoming more popular around the world float gently up into the skies when you light the wick at the bottom. Burning brightly they operate as hot air balloons as they are directed purely by the winds. They keep on going until they burn themselves out and can travel for some miles from the point of which they were originally set off into the air. These lanterns are commonly used at weddings, birthday parties, outdoor events and other celebrations.
Johnny Craig of the UFO watchers society commented: “people automatically assume when they see an orange glowing ball floating around in the skies that it is a UFO. The winds can often make the Chinese sky lanterns change direction in a way that even the most advanced aeroplanes couldn’t achieve so there is little other explanation in people’s minds that they have to be UFO’s.”
Johnny further commented: “I’m really sorry to have to disappoint people but whenever we have put resource out to determine the cause of a orange glowing ball floating about in the skies, 9 times out of 10 it turns out to be one of these Chinese sky lanterns.”
The sky lanterns which are often given as gifts cause varying degrees of alarm. Most people simply stop and gaze whilst wondering if they are seeing what they think they are, often forming small groups on the streets pointing out the sky lanterns to each other. Other people however have called out the police in an attempt to protect other members of the public from the impending alien invasion.
