A completely unique multilevel help for spelling program for American English was developed by an elementary teacher as a result of a 12 year old sixth grader who was battling with spelling because he was only spelling at a second grade level and his family spoke a different language at home. He also was struggling with reading since scholars who experience trouble spelling often function at a lower reading level.
In an attempt to assist this young person, words that matched the second grade reading level were developed and given to the kid who was ready to ace the subsequent spelling test. He was so happy he cried for joy as he had not received a perfect 100 score before.
That perfect spelling score proved to be an important point in the young child’s learning. He went on and performed conscientiously and continued to increasingly show progress. The language arts system that was the tool developed by this elementary teacher used to help this young man then was employed for other students in his classroom some discouraged by the language and a few who were bored by where they were asked to discover who found the usual spelling program for the grade level they were on far too easy for them.
A pre test to figure out the level of awareness of American English, spelling and reading then began to be used for each person at the start of the school year and the child was assigned a spelling level to work on based on where they were comfortable. It didn’t matter what the ordinary level for that grade was ex: if the student was in the 6th grade but only spelling and reading on the 2nd grade level they started at level B. Others in the same study room that were spelling at an 8th grade level were assigned to level G.
Each child then progressed on the level where they started and moved through that level of learning spelling, penmanship and creative writing using the words of that level. Positive reinforcement is a key to this method. It was not uncommon for a kid to advance 2-3 school years in the year they were in this elementary teacher’s classroom.
Based on the success of these learners, the method continued to be developed to use review words and seasonal words like pumpkin and autumn during the fall and holiday, coats and stockings during the winter.
The method covers homonyms and American English language spelling rules. Also added are exercises in penmanship and creative writing. The 40 week program contains a full school year’s worth of spelling, penmanship and creative writing lessons. Word lists are determined according to difficulty in levels A through H with level A congruent to grades 1-2 and level H corresponding to grade 9. Teachers guides are available to help with using the program.

The spelling level determines the reading level of each person and is a necessary part of being able to clearly communicate with others. How to teach spelling and lesson plans for spelling are several of the programs offered to help anyone who wants to write get started.
